Wrapped up my session on Human and Organizational Performance (HOP) at the Western Conference on Safety in Vancouver on Monday.
We looked at HOP through the lens of a non-compliance scenario; comparing a classic safety response (blame the worker) to a HOP response (what failed in the system). Then we explored how the five HOP principles can actually be applied in organizations.
Had some good conversations in the room about where people think their organization is at right now; classic safety versus HOP. It was encouraging to see that for a lot of people, it's a mix of both. Some are further along the HOP journey and others walked away with a clearer picture of where to start.
In keeping with Jay Kiew (JQ)'s keynote theme, we sprinkled in some live demonstrations of how AI can assist with HOP-informed questions after an incident and creating a HOP rollout plan.
Thanks to the Western Conference on Safety for having me. Always good to be in a room where people are ready to think differently about safety.
