Excited to be presenting on Human and Organizational Performance at the Western Conference on Safety in Vancouver on April 20th. For anyone not familiar with HOP, it's built on five principles: - Error is normal - Context drives behavior - Blame fixes nothing - How you respond to failure matters - Learning and improving is vital What makes this approach powerful is instead of asking "What's wrong with this worker?" we start asking "What's wrong with the system this worker is operating in?" As someone who's spent years working in high-hazard environments, this resonates. Workers are trying to do the right thing within the conditions they're given. HOP recognizes that and focuses on building better systems instead of blaming people when things go wrong. Excited to dig into this in Vancouver.
